Melissa continues to be inspired by the art of honest portrait photography. Reaching back to her 12 years in shooting with BW film and Influenced by the tintypes of the early 1900's, she photographs her models up close allowing the details of the facial features to be showcased.
She is taking a different approach to her portrait-making process by slowing down and inviting the model to be calm, connected and aware of the camera. She welcomes the viewers to connect to a time of a slowed-down photographic process.
The final print is displayed on an un-stretched canvas print. The purpose of this suggested medium is an even further study of the raw detail and visual texture making a nod to the film world.
